Johnnie Lee Acklin

Johnnie Lee Acklin, longtime Yale resident, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 in the Drumright Nursing Home at the age of 90 years.

The son of the late John William Acklin and Lou Ella McBride Acklin, Johnnie was born on Jan. 15, 1922 in Salem, Ark., and had lived in the town he loved of Yale, Okla., for over 80 years.

He was united in marriage to Imogene Willis and to this union four children, Barbara, Regina, Jimmy and Johnnie Jr., were born.  After over 60 years of marriage, Imogene preceded him in death on May 24, 2009.

Johnnie was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during World War II. He was an avid Oklahoma Sooner fan and when his son’s were growing up he was active in coaching their baseball teams.

Johnnie is survived by three children, Barbara Besch and her husband Ed of San Antonio, Texas, Jimmy Acklin and his wife Mary of Las Vegas, Nev., and Regina Green and her husband Butch of Fort Myers, Fla.; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by one son, Johnnie Lee Acklin, Jr.; one brother, Earl Acklin and two sisters, Mae Phillips and Ruth Clemons.

The family would like to thank the Drumright Nursing Home for the care and love they have given to Johnnie.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in the Davis Memorial Chapel in Cushing with Pastor Mike Dershem officiating.
