David Henry Heid, Sr.

— David Henry Heid, Sr., 84, of Stillwater, Okla., passed away Nov. 5, 2012. A rosary will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church, Thursday, 7 pm. Funeral Friday, 10 am followed by graveside ceremony. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

David was born in Stillwater on May 9, 1928 to Henry and Rose (Zvonek) Heid. He attended school at St. Francis Xavier and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1946. He was a 1950 graduate of Oklahoma A& M, member of the Theta Kappa Phi fraternity, and served in the Army 45th Division Band as a bugle boy during the Korean War. In 1955, he married Shirley L. Goodman of Seiling, Okla.

Heid enjoyed playing the trumpet and shared his love of music as a teacher. He taught in schools throughout the state including Ripley, Seiling, Shattuck, Sand Springs, and retired from teaching at Stillwater.

Heid was a devout Catholic and an avid OSU cowboy fan. He enjoyed farming and reading. He volunteered for many local organizations: church parish council, Knights of Columbus, scout leader, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, visited shut- ins, and delivered Mobile Meals. He was awarded the Governor’s Conservation Award and Award of Merit for his 32 year service and numerous terms as president of the Payne County Rural Water Shed Board.

His greatest pleasures were the dedication and devotion to marriage and family. He maintained the Heid Homestead which was established in the early 1900’s, enjoyed traveling, and coffee at Chuck’s Paint & Paper.

Mr. Heid is preceded in death by his son, David Heid, Jr.; sister, Dorothy Heid Adam; and sister, Helen Rose Heid.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, and their eight children: (Monica, Kevin, Brian, Michael, Douglas, Marcella, Richard, Miriam); two son-in-laws (Greg Breazile and Peter Rose); five daughter-in-laws (Carol Daniels Heid, Mary Rose Heid, Debbie Winberg Heid, Denise Friedle Heid, Susan Farrell Heid); 31 grandchildren (David, Michael, Alicia, Melanie, David, Bethany, Victor, Brandy, Vincent, Hannah, Rachael, Sarah, Jessica, Ashley, Christina, Andrew, Nicholas, Christopher, Stephanie (Spouse of Taylor Cane), Benjamin, Cecilia, Julia, Richard, Michael, Teresa, William, Philip, Thomas, Brittany, Daniel, and Catherine); and five great –grandchildren (Brianna, Caden, Brayden, Haylee, and Genesis).
