Verlin “Count” H. Curtis

Verlin “Count” H. Curtis went to be with the Lord on his 78th birthday, Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012. His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater with Pastor Larry Eslinger officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Dec. 9, 1934 in Perkins, Okla., to Samuel D. Curtis and Ella Nell Johnson Curtis. He married Donna Riggs on Feb. 14, 1982 in Perkins, Okla. Count graduated from Perkins High School in 1952. He then went to work in the oil field until he was drafted into the Army in the summer of 1957. He received an honorable discharge in the autumn of 1959. He then enjoyed a long career working for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1988.   

Count was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dale and Buddy; and one sister, Dorothy.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Curtis, of the home; one son, Verlin E. Curtis, of Crescent, Okla.; one daughter, Ellen Roy, of Houston, Texas; one step-daughter, Stephanie Mayes, of Owasso, Okla.; one step-son, John C. Riggs, of Stillwater, Okla.; five grandchildren, Rebecca, John, Danielle, Alannah and Russell Mayes; one great grandchild; three sisters, Esther Fowble of Oklahoma City, Okla., Lois Inskeep of Calif., and Bonnie Bales of Yukon, Okla.
