William F. Layes, Jr.  (Bill), 62, passed away on June 9, 2012 in Shakhon Nakhon, Thailand. Bill was born on Nov. 25, 1949 to Bill and Doris (Bates) Layes in Ft. Smith, Ark. Bill lived in Ark., for the first five years of his young life, and then the family relocated to Stillwater, Okla., where Bill attended grade school at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and high school at Perkins where he graduated in May 1967.

After graduating, Bill joined the army in 1967 and did two tours in Vietnam, and he was honorably discharged. He was proud and honored to serve his country.

Bill worked many years for Bell Telephone and Stillwater Milling Co. and was a Fire Training Instructor for OSU.  As a certified Scuba Diver, Bill enjoyed traveling overseas, and diving every chance he could to become an instructor himself. It was on one of his many trips that he met his wife Nuree and Thailand was soon to be his new home, where he was living his dream in his paradise doing what he wanted.

Bill is survived by his mother, Doris (Layes), and stepfather, John Blankenship, of Rover, Ark.; wife, Nuree; son, Chris Pixler, and wife, Marcia; son, Trey Layes, and wife, Jennifer; daughter, Amy (Layes) Sheehan, and husband, Cody; granddaughter, Brylen Grace Sheehan; brothers, David Layes, Michael Layes, and Roy Layes; and sister, Kay Stanton.

Bill will be missed by his family, and his Oklahoma friends as well as his new Thailand friends.

A memorial service to follow at a later date.
