Emma Alyce Adler, 94, died on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, in Cleveland, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Emma was born June 27, 1918 in Asher, to Robert Nelson and Sennica M. (Whitlatch) Montgomery She received her early education in Pottawatomie County. She married William “Bill” J. Adler on Nov. 20, 1937, in Tecumseh. They made their first home on the Adler home place, and later made a permanent move to Stillwater. The couple lovingly raised three children, and enjoyed more than 70 years of marriage until Bill’s death in 2009.
Emma was a member of Disciples of Christ First Christian Church, but later moved her membership to the Zion Luther Church in Perry. She was an active member of both churches. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and a good game of golf.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sennica Montgomery; four brothers; three sisters; one daughter-in-law; and her husband, Bill Adler.
She is survived by her son, Billy Kenneth Adler, and wife, Jean, of Longview, Texas; daughter, Naomi Geraldine Smith, and husband, Jack, of Pearland, Texas; and daughter, Caroll Lea VanDeventer, and husband, Bob, of Cleveland. Emma is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Stacy Smith; Sean Smith and wife, Susan; Karrie Pettyjohn and husband, Paul; Douglas VanDeventer and wife, Julie; Sue Todd and husband, Jim; Sherri Williams and husband, Dana; Timothy Adler and wife, Shauna; Ann Pauls and husband, Phil; Kenny Adler; and Celia Moore and husband, Jeff; 17 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; dear friends, Elnora Burks, Emily Sprunger and Dea Rash; and many more nieces, nephews and friends.
