Julia Erna (Mann) Stiegler

Julia Erna (Mann) Stiegler, age 93, of Hondo passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013.

Born Aug. 22, 1919, in Hondo, she was one of four children of Desra George and Augusta (Neumann) Mann. She was a homemaker, a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, a member of the Altar Society and of Herman Sisters Lodge No. 161.

Julia attended St. John’s Catholic School and later went to Devine High School where she graduated in 1937. On July 3, 1940, she married Harold Louis Stiegler and moved to their newly-built home on the Stiegler farm, where they lived for 68 years.

Julia was a very loving, caring and compassionate person. She loved being with her family and friends, especially going with “the Bunch” to football games, dances and parties. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family and having them all together.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband; her parents; sisters, Lorene Mann Tondre and Lenora Mann King; brother, Horace Mann; grandson, Christopher Stiegler and his wife Jenny.

She is survived by her children, Dr. James H. Stiegler and wife Connie Rose of Stillwater, Okla., and Connie Jean Shullanberger and husband Zane of Hondo; grandchildren, Stephanie Neill and husband Scott of Flower Mound, Corbin Shullanberger and wife Kaprice of New Braunfels, and Conor Shullanberger and wife Dawn of New Braunfels; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Addison and Preston Neill, Emily Grace Stiegler, Brixton and Bryleigh Shullanberger; many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Woodmen of the World Section.

The family suggests memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church or Medina Healthcare Fund.
