Audrey Eleanor Oaks

Audrey Eleanor Oaks, 87, a former resident of Stillwater, Okla., passed away peacefully, Jan. 26, 2013, in Midwest City, Okla.  She was born April 30, 1925 in Jamestown, N.Y., to Percy and Mable Macey Oaks.  

Audrey graduated from Batavia (NY) High School in 1943.  She was a medical secretary for a Batavia physician for several years before attending Buffalo State University College for Teachers, Buffalo,N.Y., where she graduated with a BS in Art Education.  Her teaching career began in the Attica, N.Y. school system as an art and drafting teacher (1955 - 1964).  During this time Audrey earned her MS in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin.  She became a resident of Stillwater, Okla. (1964), OSU Assistant Professor of Art Education, Dept. of Curriculum and Instruction while earning her Ed.D.  Audrey retired as an Associate Professor  in the College of Education in1990.  During her retirement years, she was very active in the Payne County Retired Educators Assn., OSU Emeriti Assn., Okla. Art Educators Assn. and the National Art Education Assn.  Audrey was honored by the OSU College of Education with the Hall of Fame Award 2004.

In 2008, due to declining health, Audrey relocated to Midwest City to be closer to family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Percy Oaks, Jr., sisters, Muriel Stoops and Beverly Nichols.  Survived by sister, Barbara Andrews and husband Gordon of Del City, and nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the staff of Midwest City Nursing Center for their loving care over the past years and to Centennial Hospice for their help and care in the recent weeks.  Private family services.  Memorials may be made to the Mable Marietta Macey-Oaks & Percy W. Oaks, Sr. Endowed Memorial Art Education Scholarships, Oklahoma State University.
