Betti Heiserman

Alberta Elizabeth "Betti" Heiserman, 81, of Chaska, Minn., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 29th, 2013 in Eden Prairie, Minn. surrounded by family and loved ones. She battled Alzheimer's disease for many years, but finally took rest to be with the Lord in Heaven.

Memorial services will be held at Strode Funeral Home, 610 S. Duncan St., Stillwater Okla., February 16th at 2pm. Catholic Burial will be in Baltimore, Md. on March 2nd.

Betti was born Oct. 16th, 1931 in Baltimore, Md. to Albert and Teresa (Crimi) Nardi, oldest of three siblings, followed by Ronald and Rosalee.  She was baptized into the Catholic church, and later graduated from Paterson High School in 1949. After high school she obtained an RN nursing certificate and a Science and Practice of Nursing degree in 1952. On Aug. 19, 1956 she married Russell L Heiserman in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Baltimore, Md..

They had three children and were married until 1990. Betti continued her education with a B.S. in Education in 1959 and later a Master of Science in Education from Oklahoma State University, 1978.

Betti was a lively soul, outgoing and kind to everyone she met. She taught mentally challenged students her entire career and pioneered Even-Start and other programs.

She was creative and loved to paint. She inspired an appreciation of art and music in her children and grandchildren.

She loved nature, most of all the ocean. She loved pets -- maybe too much! Betti also loved to dance and be around people. She was very active until formally diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, 2009. She lived with her son and daughter-in-law for 2 years before moving to a care facility in 2010.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Teresa Nardi, and her son, Alan Steven Heiserman.

Survivors include her son Scott, his wife Kay and their children Andrea and Andrew of Chaska, Minn.. Betti is also survived by her daughter, Christa of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Ronald Nardi, her brother, his wife Phyllis and their children: David, Mark, Beth Anne, and Lisa, and their families; her sister Rosalee Velenovsky (Nardi), and her husband Louis, and their children: Carla, Marc and Roger, and their families.
