Paula June Hunt
1934 - 2013
Paula June Hunt, loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away at the home of her daughter in Amarillo, Texas, on Feb. 22 at the age of 78. Paula was born in Seattle, Wash., the youngest of four children, to Bernard Paul and Marie Beall Spiro, and grew up in Sacramento, Calif.
She loved the Lord our God with all her heart, strength and mind and recently fulfilled a dream of going to Israel. Paula went to Rhema Bible College, and served as a missionary to Africa. She loved ministering to the children there. She was always thinking about ministry, and she has many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who have also claimed the Lord as their Savior.
Family was the most important thing to her. Paula was mother to five children and 10 step-children and over a 100 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she sent birthday and Christmas presents to all of them every year. Her passion was teaching Sunday School and Children’s Church.
Wherever she went, she left tracts. She loved cooking, gardening and doing puzzles.
Paula had an Associate of Arts Degree from Rose State College in Midwest City and was an analyst at Tinker AFB until she retired. While married to Lauren Dewey Mendenhall, Paula moved to Thailand for five years.
While there, she was very active in “The American Women’s Club” and taught English to Thai children and was a Boy Scout leader.
Paula married Howard Hunt on Jan. 10, 1998. They attended LifeChurch.tv in Stillwater. After she retired, she was the office manager at Kids’ Kingdom for eight years and loved being around the children.
The memorial service will be held at LifeChurch at 1917 N. Country Club Rd. in Stillwater at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents, former husbands and one brother, Robert Spiro. Paula is survived by one sister, Pearl Simon of Meridian, Idaho, and one brother, David Spiro of Dallas, Texas; five children, Darrell DeVore and wife Debbie of Claremore, Dennis DeVore and wife Cher of Cookson, Glenn Mendenhall and wife Denesha of Midwest City, Lorna Rogers and husband Larry of Amarillo, Texas, Todd Mendenhall and wife Valerie of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; her stepchildren, Cherlene Golitz and husband Bud of Poulsbo, Wash., Gary Mendenhall and wife Anne of Sonora, Calif., Bruce Mendenhall and Mark Mendenhall of Santa Clara, Calif., Steven Mendenhall and wife Richelle of Jacksonville, Fla., Gail Taylor of Mulhall, Keith Hunt and wife Kim of Mulhall, Beverly and husband Joel of Guthrie, Wesley and wife Diana of Mulhall; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; together with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
