Charles Edward McKnight

Charles Edward McKnight, 85, of Perkins passed peacefully from this life into eternity in heaven on March 5, 2013, in Tulsa, with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mehan Union Church with Pastor Larry Eslinger officiating. A private family burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Oklahoma City.  A viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary North in Oklahoma City.

Affectionately known as “Bud” to many, Charles was born on Feb. 1, 1928, the ninth child of 11 children at the family home near Mehan to Jasper and Georgia (Giddeon) McKnight. A 1946 graduate of Ripley High School, Charles married Nina Faye Brewer on Sept. 20, 1950, in Cushing. A son, Michael Edward McKnight, was born March 5, 1958. After Nina’s death, Charles was married Ann Simma on April 15, 2004.

Charles served in the United States Army from 1950-1952. Following his discharge, he was employed in a variety of occupations including law enforcement and construction. He spent 26 years with the Bovaird Oilfield Supply Co., retiring as a company vice president in 1983. He then owned and operated VEPCO in Oklahoma City, retiring from this venture at age 75 in 2002.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Nina; son, Michael; brothers, Red, LeeRoy, Ralph, Jack, and Johnnie; and sisters Beulah, Ruth, and Rena.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; two sisters, Reba Burton and Maybell Russell; sister-in-law Betty McKnight; stepchildren Bobby and Dayna Simma, Steve and Jacklyn Simma, Nelson and Lori Allen, and Denise and Russell Pickrel; 13 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Gideons, International at P.O. Box 140880, Nashville, TN 37214 or to the Ripley Former Students and Teachers Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 362, Ripley, Oklahoma 74062.
