OUR VIEW: Residents should support Relay

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater residents always turn out for Relay for Life. The Stillwater event annually is one of the biggest Relay money raisers in the state.

At 7 p.m. Friday, residents, cancer survivors and their families and the families of those who lost a cancer battle will gather at Stillwater High School’s Pioneer Stadium for a dusk-to-dawn fundraiser.

Organizers hope to raise at least $127,000 for the American Cancer Society. Teams have raised $104,000 during events this spring. The goal should be matched or eclipsed during the event.

The event is open to the public, and there are several elements, including the 10 p.m. luminaria ceremony that are must-see events. Food and family-oriented activities will be available all night long. A silent auction will be held from 9:30-10 p.m.

Organizers say 25 teams and approximately 85 cancer survivors have registered. Approximately 450 people will participate.

Stillwater residents always have supported the Relay for Life, and will continue to do so Friday night and Saturday morning.

We encourage the public to stop by Pioneer Stadium for a taste of Relay for Life, and the opportunity to make a donation that will be used to fund research to find cancer cures.

Let’s beat the $127,000 goal.
