STILLWATER, Okla. —
To the editor:
I notice that there is a lot of positive media about our local school administration. A lot. Perhaps this is because they are trying to overshadow all the negative media. But the negative items are STILL THERE.
We still are losing teachers, we still have increasing class sizes, we still have low morale, we still are top- heavy in administrators.
There are about 85 assistant superintendents in the entire state. Stillwater has TWO of them. TWO! Bartlesville has zero assistant superintendents, and they are basically our twin district in student population and number of schools.
The vocal group of concerned parents is not quite as vocal right now, and it’s because we are researching. There is much reading and contacting to do, and layers upon layers of bureaucracy. But do not give up hope.
We are still pushing for SPS to become again what it once was – a happy place with successful students. Sure, some of this is state level madness. But a lot of it is coming from the district level.
You can help by being vocal in the media and by attending school board meetings and asking questions or voicing your opinion.
People tend to forget that we aren’t a minority – we are representing the hundreds of people who feel they cannot talk freely without repercussions.
