OUR VIEW: Are you ready for baseball?

STILLWATER, Okla. — The biggest home games in program history will take place this weekend at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium when the Oklahoma State Cowboys square off against the University of California-Irvine in the NCAA Super Regional.

Never before has the venerable ballpark on the north side of the OSU campus been the site of a baseball series of this magnitude.

The stakes couldn’t be any higher.

The winner of the best-of-three series advances to the College World Series next week in Omaha, Neb.

It all gets started at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Game 1 of the Super Regional.

Game 2 is slated at 9 p.m. Saturday.

An if-necessary game will be played at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Fans turned out by the droves for last weekend’s regional tournament, including a crowd of some 3,200 fans for Sunday night’s clinching victory over Cal State Fullerton, which was followed by a joyous celebration by the players on the field and by the fans in the Reynolds Stadium grandstands.

OSU officials are expecting a similar crowd count this weekend in the Super Regional.

All-session passes went on sale Tuesday and were sold out 90 minutes after the ticket windows opened. A limited number of single-session tickets will be available two hours before each game, but those tickets figure to sell out fast as well.

Reynolds Stadium has a seating capacity of 3,800 seats, and chances are good each of those will be filled this weekend for the Super Regional.

Fan appeal for this series is great enough that the university probably could set up temporary bleacher seating down the right field line and would have no trouble filling those. Suffice it to say that Orange Nation will be out in force this weekend for the biggest baseball series in the history of Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
