OUR VIEW: Be an informed voter for primary

STILLWATER, Okla. — It’s your duty to be a well-informed voter. The Stillwater News Press published Stillwater City Council Seat 4 candidate answers to the Stillwater League of Women Voter’s questionnaire in Sunday’s paper.

Residents have two additional opportunities to learn about the three candidates — Jim Gardner, Miguel Najera and incumbent Cody Scott — and their stance on the issues.

The League of Women Voters will hold a candidate forum from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Stillwater Municipal Building, 723 S. Lewis. The candidates will square off at 8 a.m. Friday at the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce’s forum. The Chamber is located at 409 S. Main St.

Early voting for the March 4 City Council primary started Thursday and concludes Friday. Eligible voters can cast ballots at the Payne County Election Board in the county administration building, 315 W. Sixth Ave. Early voting is held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on those days.

Tuesday is election day. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day.

If any of the candidates receives a majority vote Tuesday, they will be elected to office. However, if no candidate receives a majority vote, the top two will battle in the April 1 general election.

We encourage all residents to get to know the candidates and their stances on a variety of issues at the upcoming forums.

We also encourage all eligible voters to be well informed when they go to the polls Thursday, Friday or Tuesday.
