OUR VIEW: Celebrate Stillwater Saturday at Couch Park

Stillwater NewsPress

STILLWATER, Okla. — You’ve seen the signs popping up here and there.

Celebration Stillwater. What does that mean? Head out to Couch Park between noon and 6 p.m. today to find out.

Celebration Stillwater is billed as a day of food, fun and help offered by our businesses and our churches working together.

OK, so maybe a Saturday afternoon fun fair is not the type of thing one would expect to see endorsed on a newspaper’s editorial page.

But the spirit of cooperation among our residents and our business and faith communities to come together in this way to reach out citywide is exactly the kind of thing that is worthy of a nod.

Celebration Stillwater is not just fun and games - though it sounds like exactly that. There are free medical checks, athletic clinics and demonstrations. Organizers say you can even get your oil changed while you are there. Members of nearly a dozen Oklahoma State University sports teams have agreed to show up and show what they do.

It’s all free and there are even drawings for free gifts.

You can decide whether it’s worthy of your time. But is Celebration Stillwater a cooperative effort that reflects well on our community? Absolutely.
