OUR VIEW: For yourself and community

STILLWATER, Okla. — The next few days offer a chance to do something good for yourself, your children, your dog and your community.

The Humane Society of Stillwater’s annual Walk-N-Wag fundraiser will be Saturday at Boomer Lake and in the Kicker parking lot. The agency uses the event to raise money for food and health care for the animals it shelters.

Registration begins at 3:30 p.m. You can walk your own dog or there will be shelter dogs available for you to walk around the lake.

The Stillwater Family YMCA is hosting its annual Healthy Kids Day and 5K Run & Heart Walk Saturday at Boomer Lake.

The event is a part of a national initiative to improve the health and well-being of children and their families.

The action starts at 9:30 a.m. with the 5K run. The Heart Walk starts at 9:45 a.m. on the west side of the lake.

Children’s programs will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and there will be bounce houses, sports stations and other fun games and activities for families to enjoy.

The event is a chance for children and adults to develop healthy habits. Plan to go and take part.

You can do something meaningful for Stillwater on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. That’s when the Convenience Collection Center, 807 S. Perkins, will be collecting household hazardous waste.

This is an opportunity for residents to dispose of hazardous chemicals that can be found around the house.

It also benefits the city of Stillwater because it keeps those hazardous chemicals out of the wastewater collection system.
