STILLWATER, Okla. —
Alumnae of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority at Oklahoma State University will reunite Saturday for the 90th anniversary of the local chapter.
According to a press release, 325 students and alumnae will be on hand at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center to meet with past and present members. Karen Campbell, co-decorating chair for the house corporation and alumna, said the day will start with decade reunions at 9 a.m.
“In the morning we will be dividing up into decades so people can visit with friends from when they were in the house and then we have the luncheon,” said Campbell.
The luncheon will feature keynote speaker Alpha Delta Pi International Secretary Sydnee Jack.
There will also be tours of the chapter house at 1309 West University Avenue and the new annex.
“Over the last 10 years we’ve completely renovated our chapter house and so a lot of these women coming back have not seen any of the changes that we have done and we’ve completely renovated inside and out at the chapter house,” said Campbell.
The new annex houses 35 women and a house mom, whereas the chapter house can hold 58 women. Campbell said the house total is 205 women, ranging from freshman to senior year.
In recognition of the anniversary, Campbell said, they are raising $90,000 for a 90th Anniversary Scholarship through the OSU Foundation.
“We were one of the sororities that successfully got an opportunity to raise funds eligible for the T. Boone Pickens Matching Fund and so we decided since it coincides with our 90th anniversary, the kickoff of the scholarship, we just decided that our goal was to reach out to 90 women who would be willing to pledge $1,000 over the five-year period,” said Campbell.
So far, they have raised almost $30,000, said Campbell. The deadline to reach the goal is December 2015.
Campbell, who pledged in fall 1977, said alumnae are coming from many parts of the nation including California, New York and Colorado.
“We have one alum that will be with us that was initiated 70 years ago,” said Campbell.
Alpha Delta Pi was the first sorority to be chartered in the world, said Campbell. While two chapters existed in Oklahoma — one at OSU and the other at the University of Oklahoma — the OU chapter disbanded in the 60s, she said. A few of the OU alumnae will be attending the anniversary as well.
However, the days of OSU being home to the only chapter in the state are almost over, she said.
“We just received notice that we are going to charter a chapter at UCO (the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond) in the Fall of 2012,” said Campbell.
Campbell said she is excited in anticipation of the event.
“I’m very excited, especially for the women who have had so many years of sharing our sisterhood (and) for them to have the opportunity to come back at this time and reacquaint themselves with their school and their chapter and friends,” said Campbell.
