STILLWATER, Okla. —
The Oklahoma State University Foundation has passed the $750 million mark in a billion-dollar capital campaign, the foundation announced this week.
The Branding Success campaign is an initiative to raise $1 billion in donations by Dec. 31, 2014. Those donations come in a number of forms, including scholarships and endowed chairs and professorships.
OSU officials have identified four priorities for the campaign: supporting students, faculty, facilities and programs. To date, the campaign has generated 720 new scholarships and 124 new endowed chairs and professorships.
Of that $750 million total, $252.8 million was raised during the 2010-11 fiscal year, OSU officials announced, topping the $115 million goal for that period.
In a release, OSU President Burns Hargis said he is encouraged by the pace of the campaign.
“We are on a remarkable pace, and I want to thank all our supporters for helping the Branding Success Campaign reach the milestone of $750 million,” Hargis said. “OSU alumni and friends have embraced the campaign vision and goals and their giving is catapulting Oklahoma State University to a new level of scholarship, academics and facility development. Their generosity will have an impact on students today and well into the future.”
The campaign has been bolstered to a degree by support from oil financier and OSU alumnus T. Boone Pickens. Last year, Pickens offered a $100 million matching gift for donations made toward scholarships. Pickens increased that offer by $20 million earlier this year. Pickens’ matching funds have since been exhausted.
OSU Foundation President Kirk Jewell said Pickens’ grant, called the Pickens Legacy Scholarship Match, has been instrumental in the success of the campaign so far.
“The Pickens Legacy Scholarship Match has been a transformational, record-breaking success, inspiring a new generation of donors to OSU,” Jewell said. “The program created an environment of unprecedented energy and passion in our campaign, which continues today as we move closer to our ultimate goal of $1 billion.”
