A trumpeter and trombonist with extensive recording experience will teach and perform for the Oklahoma State University Brass Day 2010.
The event on Jan. 16 will feature Wayne Bergeron on trumpet and Andy Martin on trombone. The all-day event will culminate with a public concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts.
The OSU department of music uses Brass Day to recruit students and offer music students and business students the opportunity to learn from artists in the recording industry. There will be a master class at 1:30 p.m.
The final concert at 7:30 p.m. will also feature the OSU Jazz Ensemble. Tickets for the day’s events are $15. Concert tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults.
Bergeron’s first solo big band CD, “You Call This A Living?” earned him a Grammy nomination in 2004 for Best Large Jazz Ensemble.
As a sideman, he has been involved with hundreds of CD projects with artists including Beyoncé, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Christina Aguilera, INXS, Michael Bolton, Gwen Stefani, Earth Wind and Fire, The Pussy Cat Dolls, Chicago, Bette Midler, Ray Charles, Celine Dion, Barry Manilow, Arturo Sandoval, Robbie Williams, Ronnie Milsap, Lee Ann Womack, Lou Rawls, Green Day, Brian Setzer, Joe Cocker, Kenny G., Tito Puente and The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
His film credits include “Superman Returns,” “Mission Impossible 3,” “The Guardian,” “Ice Age 2,” “ X-Men 3,” “The Incredibles,” “Spiderman 2,” “Fantastic Four,” “Pink Panther,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Team America,” “National Treasure,” “The Life Aquatic,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Anchorman,” “White Chicks,” “The Notebook,” “The Day After Tomorrow, ” “Three Musketeers,” “Starsky and Hutch,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Catch Me if You Can” and “South Park.”
His TV credits include NBC, ESPN and TNT sports themes, “Entertainment Tonight” theme, Academy Awards, “American Idol,” Emmy Awards, Grammy Awards, Latin Grammys, “Jeopardy,” “Emperor’s New School,” “Family Guy,” “Futurama,” “Buzz Lightyear,” “Hercules,” “Lloyd in Space,” “Hey Arnold” “Promised Land” and specials with Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Jerry Lewis.
Martin maintains a busy schedule in Los Angeles as a recording artist, sideman and section player while traveling frequently for guest appearances. He has released eight albums as either leader or co-leader. He leads a quartet on his latest recording project, which is soon to be released on the Fresh Sounds label.
He has collaborated as a sideman with Stanley Turrentine and Horace Silver and has a long association with Vic Lewis.
He has performed with Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, the Bill Holman Big Band and Tom Kubis’ band. He has also appeared in bands led by Jack Sheldon, Louis Bellson, Quincy Jones, Matt Cattingub and Bob Curnow.
He has contributed on albums for the Pussycat Dolls, Coldplay and Michael Buble. His television credits include every major awards show: the Grammys, the Emmys, the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
He has also appeared regularly on the soundtracks of “American Idol,” “Dancing With The Stars,” “Family Guy,” “American Dad” and “King of the Hill.”
He has played on the soundtracks of more than 75 films, including “Mission Impossible 3,” “Glory Road,” “Just Like Heaven,” “Rush Hour,” “Planet of the Apes,” animated hits like “Monsters, Inc.,” “Robots,” and “Cars,” as well as “Spiderman,” “Big Fat Liar,” “Enemy of the State,” “Armageddon,” “Patch Adams” and “Romeo Must Die.”
Andy is also first call trombonist at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater, where he has played for Broadway hits like Mel Brooks’ “The Producers,” Disney’s “The Lion King,” “Wicked” and “Hairspray.”
He has appeared at many colleges and universities throughout the country as a guest artist and clinician and is the trombone instructor for the Jazz Studies Program at Cal State Fullerton.
