OSU veterinarian receives awards
Adam Stern, DVM, recently received the second place Young Investigator Award for his poster presentation, “Disseminated Cutaneous Mast Cell Tumors with Epitheliotropism and Systemic Mastocytosis in a Domestic Cat.”
Stern, originally of New York, is a resident in the department of veterinary pathobiology at Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. He previously received the 2009 Student Scholarship Award in Veterinary Pathology from the C.L. Davis Foundation.
Both awards were given at the annual meeting of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists recently held in Monterey, Calif.
Stern earned his doctorate of veterinary medicine degree at the University of Prince Edward Island, Atlantic Veterinary College, and is currently in his final year of his OSU anatomic pathology residency program.
In July 2010, he will work for the New Jersey Division of Animal Health in the state diagnostic laboratory.

OSU Symphony Orchestra will play two concerts with Kansas
The Oklahoma State Symphony Orchestra will play two concerts with progressive rock band Kansas on Sept. 23 and 24 at the Stillwater High School Performing Arts Center.

Alex Ophir, an OSU zoology professor, is researching social attachment issues in prairie voles, a North American rodent. Ophir said the use of voles in certain types of research has become increasingly common in the past 20 years.

Oklahoma State moves up in Forbes' best colleges list
The list was first compiled in 2008 by Forbes Magazine and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity. OSU has appeared on the list all three years. In 2010, OSU ranked 384th, placing it just below the middle of the 610-member pack.

OSU group to visit Afghan university
David Henneberry, OSU’s director of international agriculture programs, said he hopes to see the group from the College of Agriculture leave on July 20 for a two-week visit to Paktya University in Gardez, Afghanistan.

OSU fundraising campaign ahead of schedule
Branding Success, a $1 billion capital campaign spearheaded by the foundation, has raised about $600 million in the four months since it began in February, said OSU foundation spokeswoman Becky Endicott, placing it in better shape than foundation officials expected.
