A series of Happy Birthday KOSU liners will kickoff celebrations for KOSU’s 55th anniversary.
Steve Ripley, a recording artist and KOSU host of Oklahoma Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Jenifer Reynolds, a KOSU alumna and co-host of the Discover Oklahoma travel show, will be the voice of the 30-second liners, which will be heard year-round starting in January.
Both Ripley and Reynolds will tie history together as they explore the events occurring as OSU’s public radio station was started in 1955. Ripley will take a closer look at the history of rock and roll and Oklahoma’s connection, while Reynolds looks into the news and pop culture events, such as the 1955 opening of Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif.
“The really big capstone event will be the “Wait Wait...Don’t Tell Me!” event in Oklahoma City,” KOSU Director Kelly Burley said.
The Chicago-based National Public Radio news/quiz program will be aired during a September on-air broadcast in Oklahoma City.
“Hopefully we can get public radio listeners from all of Oklahoma to attend,” Burley said.
“Wait Wait...Don’t Tell Me!” is a weekly hour-long program where listeners test their knowledge against news and entertainment leaders to figure out what is true or not true, according to npr.org.
The live taping will be Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City with the actual air date to be the following Saturday. Tickets to the taping will be available later.
Other activities will include a KOSU community yard sale in June, a KOSU alumni reunion in the fall and special giveaways during the KOSU spring and fall on-air fundraisers.
