OSU-OU notebook: Special jacket falls against Sooners

STILLWATER — For the first time this season “the jacket” made an appearance at an Oklahoma State women’s basketball game.

OSU coach Kurt Budke brought out his special orange jacket for Saturday’s Bedlam matchup.

Don’t be surprised if the jacket doesn’t make another appearance this season.

OSU’s 77-66 loss to Oklahoma dropped the jacket to 2-3 all-time.

The last win the jacket saw was two years ago on Senior Night, a 73-54 win over Texas Tech.

BEDLAM BLUES: Oklahoma’s win on Saturday continued a decisive trend for the Sooners in the series with Oklahoma State.

OU has now won 21 of the last 22 games, dating back to the 1998-99 season.

Before that, however, OSU held the upper hand.

The Cowgirls won 16 of 22 against the Sooners from 1989 to 1998.

HISTORIC PACE: OSU’s Andrea Riley quietly passed Baylor’s Sophia Young for second place on the Big 12 all-time scoring list on Wednesday.

Up next is OU’s Courtney Paris at No. 1. With her 30 points Saturday, Riley now trails the former OU standout by 230 points.

Riley is guaranteed to play at least 8 more games and would need to score around 24 points a game to break the mark.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: For the second straight year, OSU senior center Megan Byford has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.

Byford is one of 6 players named to the District 6 University Division’s first team.

Byford, who is pursuing a master’s degree in teaching, learning and leadership, currently has a 3.72 grade-point average.

FREE THROWS: Oklahoma now leads the all-time series 49-35. ... OSU lost for the first time this season when leading at halftime (14-1) and is now 4-2 on televised games. ... The Cowgirls now get their bye week and won’t play again until next Saturday against Texas Tech.
