STILLWATER, Okla. —
The presidential election may be too close to call on the evening before voters go to the polls, but there’s a clear favorite when it comes to who is most likely to be the next president from the Oklahoma State football team.
Senior defensive end Cooper Bassett — a player dubbed “Captain America” by his teammates — likely wins in a landslide.
“The first thing I’d have to do is check their political science grades,” Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said of the hypothetical vote. “But just going on their wherewithal, their honesty, their willingness to follow through on a plan, I would say it would be Cooper Bassett. He’s a nice looking guy. He’s got some charisma and charisma goes a long ways nowadays in elections.”
Bassett received most of the players’ votes from Monday’s media luncheon, despite not being present at the luncheon to campaign. No doubt with just a few hours left before Election Day, Bassett — who has been deemed a tireless worker by coaches and players — was most likely still campaigning.
