STILLWATER, Okla. —
After having their last three duals at home, it will be a while before the second-ranked Oklahoma State University wrestling team returns, as it starts a month on the road with Arizona State University at 2 p.m. central time.
“You don’t have as many pleasures like being able to lose weight here,” redshirt-freshman Alex Dieringer said. “It shouldn’t be that hard. I’m just going to take it like another match.”
The Cowboys and Sun Devils met last season in Stillwater with OSU winning 33-6. Jon Morrison, Jordan Oliver, Chris Perry and Blake Rosholt scored bonus points. Rosholt said he doesn’t know what Arizona State’s lineup looks like but anticipates a similar result.
“I think it will be a pretty lopsided dual,” Rosholt said. “I have a pretty good match and have to get ready for that.”
Rosholt recovered from an ankle injury and split his matches last week. Coach John Smith said he didn’t notice any significant improvement but said Rosholt works hard in practice.
“What I do like is he lost his last match and is back in the room and has let it go and be a motivator,” Smith said. “I judge guys on the consistency in the room. Sometimes it’s hard to kick it into gear on big wins. ... I look at them as being able to keep their balance and being a guy that’s stable, knows who he is and what he wants to be in the end. Those are the guys you can count on.”
Last week, the Cowboys had a strong performance by freshman 125-pounder Eddie Klimara who won his first two matches this season against West Virginia and Pittsburgh. Smith said those victories were huge.
“I’m not sure Eddie has been favored in a match,” Smith said. “It’s a bonus. It puts him in the right frame of mind and gives him a lift. The matches he won recently, he earned them by how he works in the wrestling room.”
According to Intermat college rankings, most of Oklahoma State’s wrestlers are higher-ranked than ASU’s.
