OSU roundup: Cowgirl tennis beats ranked Utah team

STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State women’s tennis team improved to 3-1 Monday, winning 4-3, in a dual-match against the nationally-ranked Utes.

Oklahoma State’s Nataliya Shatkovskaya and Utah’s Evgenia Kryuchkova, facing off at No. 2 singles, were the only players left on the court with the winner deciding the outcome.

Shatkovskaya won the first set in a tiebreaker, but trailed 3-5 when the No. 2 match was the only one that remained.

She rallied to send the second set to a tiebreaker and fought off five set points, eventually closing out the second set 14-12 in the tiebreaker, clinching the win for Oklahoma State.

Cowgirls fall to No. 15 in AP poll

Oklahoma State’s rough week didn’t cause too much of a fall in the Associated Press women’s basketball poll on Monday.

The Cowgirls (18-5 overall, 6-3 Big 12) dropped five spots in the AP poll to No. 15 after spending a week at No. 10, the highest ranking ever for the program.

OSU lost on Wednesday to No. 3 Nebraska and at home to No. 12 Oklahoma on Saturday.

The undefeated Cornhuskers climbed one spot to No. 3 this week to lead the Big 12.

The conference then has a log jam in the middle of the poll.

The Big 12 occupies spots 11 through 15 in this week’s poll.

Baylor comes in at No. 11, with Oklahoma No. 12, Texas A&M 13, Texas 14 and the Cowgirls 15.

Iowa State is also ranked No. 20 this week.

Rosholt picks up Big 12 weekly honor

After toppling the reigning NCAA champion on Sunday, Oklahoma State heavyweight Jared Rosholt was recognized as the Big 12 wrestler of the week.

Rosholt defeated Mark Ellis 3-2 as the Cowboys defeated the Tigers 24-9 in Columbia on Sunday. Rosholt, the No. 1 ranked heavyweight, is now 6-2 in his career against Ellis, and is in the midst of a 24-match winning streak. With a win Saturday against Nebraska, Rosholt can move into a tie for 14th on the school’s all-time wins list.

Cowgirls third at Puerto Rico Classic

Oklahoma State’s women’s golf team turned in a second-round total of 288 on Monday to move into third place at Trump International Golf Club.

Sophomore Caroline Hedwall led the charge for OSU, tying her career-low round with a 65. Hedwall’s score moved her from a tie for 17th into a three-way tie for second place at 5-under 139. She begins the final round, one shot behind individual leader Hannah Burke of Baylor.

Alabama is in first place, followed by Georgia and OSU.
