OSU's Caldwell earns U.S. weekly honor

STILLWATER, Okla. — Former Oklahoma State wrestler Tyler Caldwell was named USA Wrestling's Athlete of the Week for his performance at the University World Championships in Pecs, Hungary, last week.

Hailing from Wichita, Kan., Caldwell is fresh off a gold-medal performance at the event at 74 kg/163 pounds. He defeated Robert Olle of Slovakia, 10-2 and Shawn Daye-Finley of Canada, 7-0, to move onto the finals.

He met up with Shamil-Imam Osmanov of Russia in the gold-medal freestyle match and defeated the Russian, 3-2, to claim the World title.

Caldwell was a four-time All-American and two-time NCAA finalist while wrestling for the Sooners (2009-11) and the Cowboys (2012-14).
