Riley continues to rewrite record books

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Oklahoma State senior Andrea Riley has been seemingly rewriting the record books since she arrived in Stillwater.

Friday night she took that talent to a new level.

Riley broke five records – four Big 12 marks and one OSU record – in the Cowgirls’ 62-59 win over Iowa State.

Riley set Big 12 tournament single-game records with 43 points and 44 shot attempts.

And her first basket Friday night broke the all-time scoring record of Oklahoma’s Courtney Paris.

Her 43 points also set the Big 12 single-season record with 846.

And her 3 assists gave Riley 697 in her career, breaking the OSU record.

“She’s special; she’s a special kid,” said OSU coach Kurt Budke, who made it his first priority following his first season at OSU to sign Riley. “We’ve had a lot of good times together and it’s been really fun watching her grow as a person as well as a player.”

When told of all of Riley’s records, Budke said it best: “Isn’t that something.”

Second Chance

Oklahoma State’s win was just the second time in Big 12 tournament history that a No. 7 seed has beaten a No. 2 seed in the tournament. Baylor was the only other No. 2 seed to lose, falling two years ago.

Free Throws

Riley played all 40 minutes in the game and has now played the entire game 12 times this season. Ten of those have come since Big 12 play started. … Friday also marked Riley’s 12th 30-plus scoring game of the season and the 22nd of her career. … Iowa State lost in its first Big 12 tournament game for the first time since the 2003 tournament. … OSU outrebounded ISU, only the fifth time the Cyclones have been outrebounded this season.
