STILLWATER, Okla. —
The 22nd-ranked Oklahoma State men’s basketball team continues to get good news in the injury front, with the possibility of Brian Williams getting to make a late season return — after the initial report that he would miss the season.
The news came after the return of Michael Cobbins from a toe injury that had sidelined him for a month.
It’s been a slow return to the rotation for Cobbins, however. In his first game back against Virginia Tech Cobbins played just seven minutes and went 2 for 3 from the field with two personal fouls and two turnovers.
“I’m just trying to get back in a rhythm and try to get back in the groove and feel for where I like to get the ball,” Cobbins said. “... I’ve been thinking a lot and making some uncharacteristic mistakes. But I kind of expected that coming back in. I was trying to force the game to come to me, and I've just got to let it come naturally.”
In his latest adventure on the court, Wednesday’s 61-49 win over South Florida, Cobbins saw a boost in playing time with 20 minutes of action — largely because of the size the Bulls sported in the post position.
Cobbins, who is listed at 6-foot-8, 220 pounds, did have to worry about one post player for the Bulls in Jordan Omogbehin, a 7-3, 334-pound center.
“He actually did step on it, but it didn’t hurt,” Cobbins said. “The shield we have in my shoe actually helped protect me.”
OSU’s opponent Saturday, Missouri State, does have a solid threat in the post with 6-7, 225-pound sophomore forward Christian Kirk. The sophomore forward is averaging 10.5 points per game and 5.1 rebounds.
The Bears also have two other players — 6-7, 217-pound forward Drew Wilson and 6-4, 203-pound guard/forward Keith Pickens — who are averaging more than 5 rebounds again. Wilson is hauling in 6.4 boards, while Wilson is averaging 5.6 per game.
