OSU to host No. 12 Baylor in key matchup

STILLWATER, Okla. — There is no doubt about it, Oklahoma State’s matchup against No. 12 ranked Baylor will be the toughest test that the Cowgirls will face up to this point in the season.

The No. 8 ranked Cowgirls will host Baylor at 3 p.m. Sunday. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Network.

Baylor has won the Big 12 for three consecutive seasons.

“We have a huge challenge but a great opportunity in front of us,” Oklahoma State coach Jim Littell said. “I think it’ll be the toughest game.”

An intriguing matchup will be Tiffany Bias and Odyssey Sims. Baylor’s Sims leads the nation in scoring with 30.4 points a game.

“Both point guards are obviously quality players. They ask theirs to score a little more than we do ours. Odyssey Sims is a tremendous player as is Tiffany Bias but it isn’t about point guard matchups. It’s about the Cowgirls vs. the Baylor Bears,” Littell said.

Baylor is coming off of a win against Kansas State at home. The win against Kansas State put the Bears out of a two-game skid against Kansas and Connecticut.

Baylor fell at Kansas 76-60 on Jan. 19. The Cowgirls went to Lawrence on Jan. 22 and came away with a 64-56 victory against Kansas.

Oklahoma State has the best defense in the Big 12 allowing just 53.8 points against conference opponents. Baylor’s offense is the No. 1 scoring team in the Big 12 averaging 89 points a game. Somthing will have to give on Sunday afternoon.

“There’s some things that we feel we need to exploit and I’m sure they’re working on things to exploit on us,” Littell said. “We’re 18 games into it and it isn’t to the point where you make a lot of wholesale changes. You just try to continue what you’ve been successful with and execute those things.”

Oklahoma State is 17-1 on the season and is looking to get its first ever five-game Big 12 winning streak. Baylor comes into the contest at 15-3.

“They’re proven that they’re one of the premier teams in the country,” Littell said.
