Smart set to make return

STILLWATER, Okla. — After watching the Oklahoma State Cowboys play for the last three games, sophomore guard Marcus Smart is set to make his return at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Cowboys will host Texas Tech, whose fan Smart shoved while playing in Lubbock.

The game will carried by the Big 12 Network (Cox (OKC) KOCB 34, Cox (Tulsa) KYMT 41, Suddenlink KOCB 11).

Saturday will be Bob Kurland Day. Kurland passed away on Sept. 30, 2013, and will be represented by his family.

Smart was in uncharted territory being unable to play.

“I’ve never been a part of something where I had to watch a team that I’m on on TV,” Smart said.

Smart felt that during his time off he learned some things.

“It builds character. It strengthens not just me, but the team,” Smart said.

The Cowboys are riding a seven-game losing streak, the last three have come with Smart unable to play. Oklahoma State has had a lot of things go against them in the last seven games.

“We can’t do anything about the past than learn from it and we can only control the approach we take coming up and we can only control what’s in front of us and rally around each other,” Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford said.

During the first meeting between the Cowboys and the Red Raiders, Oklahoma State suffered a 65-61 loss on the road.

Oklahoma State hopes to snap the seven game skid against Texas Tech on Saturday.

“There’s still good basketball to be played and good teams to play. We need to rally around each other. Now we have Marcus back and you never know which each day brings,” Ford said.
