STILLWATER, Okla. —
Three contestants remain for Saturday’s finale in Oklahoma State’s football version of American Idol.
Will the winner be junior Clint Chelf, redshirt freshman J.W. Walsh or true freshman Wes Lunt? The prize is Cowboy quarterback for at least the 2012 season.
It won’t be decided by a fan vote. The judges are OSU football coach Mike Gundy and his assistants, and the results may not be known immediately.
The coaching staff could spend a week or more reviewing practice and scrimmage tapes, but Gundy would like to select a starting QB before classes let out this spring.
Chelf, Walsh and Lunt have been competing to be OSU’s quarterback since spring drills opened March 12. They will walk onto the artificial turf at Boone Pickens Stadium at 12:30 p.m. Saturday for the Spring Football Finale.
The team will be divided into an orange squad and a gray squad. The quarterbacks and running backs Herschel Sims and Desmond Roland will play on both squads.
The Cowboys also have question marks at receiver. They must replace two-time Biletnikoff winner Justin Blackmon, Josh Cooper, Hubert Anyiam, and Colton Chelf.
The defense returns eight starters, but must replace defensive ends Jamie Blatnick and Richetti Jones and strong safety Markelle Martin.
Tickets are $5. They will also be good for admission to the OSU baseball game against Texas Tech which begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Tickets will be available Saturday, but all transactions must be in cash. Stadium gates will open at noon. All fan seating will be in the south side of the stadium.
