LOS ANGELES —
Oklahoma State’s women’s tennis team defeated Long Beach State, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday morning to advance in the tournament for the first time since 2001.
The Cowgirls (16-8) took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Senior C.C. Sardinha and freshman Maria Alvarez controlled their match on three, defeating Anna Jeczmionka and Anne-Sophie Willems of Long Beach State, 8-3. Meghan Blevins and Lorena Gheorghe won three straight games after trailing 7-6 to take the 9-7 victory on two and clinch the point for Oklahoma State.
The Cowgirls will return to the Los Angeles Tennis Center Sunday to face the winner of Saturday’s match between top-seeded UCLA and No. 4 seed Army at 2 p.m. With a win, the Cowgirls would appear in the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
