Oklahoma State getting eyeful of nation's hottest

Oklahoma State has seen not only its share of top teams during the first month of the season, but also some of the top scorers in the country as well.

As of Sunday, the Cowgirls have played against three of the top 10 scorers in Division I basketball. Ohio State’s Jantel Williams is No. 7 at 24.3 points a game, Arkansas-Little Rock’s Chastity Reed is No. 8 at 23.5 points and Marist’s Rachele Fitz is tied for 10th at 22.2 points.

Sunday, Oklahoma State plays at Vermont with senior guard Courtnay Pilypaitis, 17th in the country at 21.0 points a game.

OSU’s Andrea Riley tops them all, entering Sunday’s game at 26.8 points a game, second in the nation to Oral Roberts’ Kevi Luper (30.3). The Cowgirls host ORU on Dec. 22.



RILEY WATCH: With her 18 points against Coppin State, OSU senior guard Andrea Riley now has 2,085 points, good for second all-time at OSU. That leaves the senior 83 points behind Clinette Jordan for the women’s all-time scoring record of 2,168.

Riley is also chasing Byron Houston (2,379) and Bryant Reeves (2,367) for the all-time school record for points scored.

Riley is No. 8 in all-time Big 12 scoring. Up next at No. 7 is LaNeishea Caufield of Oklahoma (2,125).



ALLY TIME: OSU senior guard Ally Clardy has seen increased playing time over the past three games. After playing only two minutes in the first three games, Clardy has played 59 minutes in the past four, including 31 in the double-overtime loss to Michigan State last week.

Clardy played 14 minutes on Sunday, scoring three points and dishing out three assists.



FOUR SCORE: Despite leading 34-20 at the break, Oklahoma State had only four players score in the first. Precious Robinson had 12 points, Tegan Cunningham 11, Andrea Riley nine and LaSharra Riley two.



HOME COOKING: With Sunday’s victory, OSU has now won 36 straight nonconference home games under coach Kurt Budke. The last home nonconference loss was in double-overtime to Tulsa on Dec. 3, 2005.
