STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State pitchers Chelsea Ross and Kat Espinosa combined to throw a perfect game Tuesday as the Cowgirl softball team defeated Eastern Oklahoma 14-0 in a regulation seven-inning scrimmage. The pitching duo combined for nine strikeouts without allowing a runner on base.

The OSU offense stepped up at the plate, connecting on 13 hits, including four home runs. The Cowgirls took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run homer by shortstop Gessenia DeLaCruz, her third of the fall season.

Sophomore Ari Morrison hit a triple to lead off the third, and after centerfielder Shannon Kaufman walked with two outs, designated player Simone Freeman hit a two-run single between the first and second basemen. Catcher Tarah Ettinger followed that with a two run home run of her own over the fence in left centerfield, giving OSU a 6-0 lead.

An error, a walk and a base hit loaded the bases in the fourth inning for Oklahoma State, when freshman Tiffany Mikkelson hit a bomb over the wall in left field, giving her 10 RBIs this fall. She added another in the fifth on a base hit before Ross contributed to the cause with a three-run home run to give OSU the 14-0 win.

Ross, a freshman from Kansas City, Mo., started the game and threw five innings, striking out five. Espinosa, a senior from Houston, Texas, came on in relief in the final two innings and struck out four of the six batters she faced.

Oklahoma State (5-1) will finish the fall season Saturday as the Cowgirls host Tulsa and Wichita State in a three-game round-robin starting at 11 a.m. at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
