Pokes lose a top men's hoops recruit
One of the top recruits from Travis Ford’s highly-touted class of 2009 won’t be coming to Stillwater after all.
The Moberly Moniter-Index on Thursday reported that 6-foot-7 power forward Karron Johnson has signed a letter of intent to play for Moberly Area Community College. MACC coach Jay Spoonhour announced the signing earlier this week.
Johnson was one of the main recruits that ranked OSU’s class as the 11th-best by Rivals.com
Johnson, who attended multiple high schools, apparently did not meet eligibility requirements by the NCAA for Division I athletics.
Johnson was expected to see considerable playing time for the Cowboys this year as a freshman.
Ford and the Cowboys still have six players coming to school this fall.
That list includes guard Ray Penn (ranked No. 44 overall by Rivals.com), small forward Roger Franklin (ranked No. 98 overall), guard Jarred Shaw (ranked No. 111), guard Reger Dowell, guard Fred Gulley, and post Torin Walker.
The Cowboys are coming off a 23-12 season that included a win over Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
OSU begins the 2009-10 season by hosting Seattle on Saturday, Nov. 14.
