STILLWATER, Okla. — Junior wide receiver Charlie Moore gave Oklahoma State University fans plenty to cheer about before the season began. In the Orange-White game last April, Moore caught nine passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns.

Now with injuries to receivers Tracy Moore and Isaiah Anderson, Moore has played a key role in the last two games — reaching career-highs in receptions, yards and longest reception.

“It’s been a good past couple of weeks,” Moore said. “I’ve been working hard. I’m going to continue to work hard this week and continue to improve.”

Saturday against Iowa State, Moore caught eight passes for 129 yards with most of the yardage on a 74-yard touchdown pass from redshirt freshman J.W. Walsh. Moore said he just ran a good route.

“It’s always good to put points on the board for the offense,” Moore said. “It was a great play call by coach (Todd) Monken. It was very well executed by J.W. getting some time. It was a route we work on every week. It worked to perfection.”

Moore used a double move to get separation from Iowa State’s defensive back.

“I really wanted to sell the fake,” Moore said. “A guy like J.W. running out there, you can always buy some time.”

Two weeks ago at Kansas, Moore caught five passes for 97 yards including a 72-yard touchdown. The junior wide receiver’s touchdown receptions are Oklahoma State’s longest plays from scrimmage this season. Though, he was pleased with his contributions, Moore said he was more happy with the team’s performance.

“It was a great win for us,” Moore said. “Not really paying attention to what I did but love putting points on the board. Great offensive day. The defense really kept us in the game. They had some huge momentum plays and we relied on them a lot. It was a great team win.”

Moore added he doesn’t compare his performances each game but just goes out and does his best.

“I just go out and look at next week and see what I can get better at,” Moore said. “I had some missed opportunities. Lot of things to get better at but I’m excited about that. It’s going to be a good learning week.”

Moore’s strong play hasn’t gone unnoticed as coach Mike Gundy and offensive coordinator Todd Monken are complimentary of his efforts.

“Charlie has been a really good leader for us,” Gundy said. “We had some seniors that weren’t there (Saturday). When that happens you have to have someone step up and make a play. ... We try to scheme formation and finagle a way to get the ball to guys that we feel like can make big plays while the younger guys grow up.”

“I think he’s worked awfully hard to get where he is as a player. I think that’s the biggest thing,” Monken said. “Guys need opportunities at times and their confidence grows. We didn’t do that earlier in the year. You only have so many bullets. We’re trying to get it to those guys. He’s played well since the season started. When you play receiver, you can play well even if your stats don’t show it. Charlie has played the same way, he just hadn't had the opportunities.”
