Stillwater Sports Minute: Forget the dressing, pass the practice

STILLWATER, Okla. — Thanksgiving couldn’t come fast enough for most starving college students. Between the turkey, the stuffing and all the green bean casserole you can eat, the holiday breaks up the steady diet of ramen noodles.

Oklahoma State senior forward Toni Young doesn’t share the same views as most college students.

“I really don’t want the break, but it’s great to have a break because I’m going to go home and eat everything in sight,” Young said. “I really would rather be in the gym practicing and staying in shape than going home and being fat and sitting on the couch. If I get home, I’m going to have a plate and turn on some cartoons and just sit around.”

The Cowgirls are taking the rest of the week off to celebrate Thanksgiving. And while a couple extra helpings of turkey might help Oklahoma State beef up for the physical Big 12 conference schedule, Oklahoma State coach Jim Littell said the team will pick up right where it left off in practice.

“We’re ready to go to a little break here,” Littell said. “We’re going to give our players off from (Tuesday) until Saturday night to watch the Bedlam game and get back and start practicing again. We don’t play for eight days. We have some people that are a little beat up and a little hobbled right now, and we need to let them get healthy again.”
