OUR VIEW: This week in conTXT

STILLWATER, Okla. — A :-) to Andy and Rudy, the youngest members of the Payne County Sheriff’s Department. The two Belgian malinois dogs are trained in apprehension, obedience and tracking.

A :-) to the Payne County Assessor’s Office for diligently working to refund money to taxpayers who were overcharged because of a computer software glitch.

A :-) to Stillwater High School students and faculty who held a variety of events this week to raise money for the Oklahoma WONDERtorium during Stillwater Makes a Change Week.

A :-) to the organizers and volunteers at the Friends of the Library annual spring book sale which ends today at the Stillwater Public Library. All profits go into a fund that supports the library. The fall and spring 2010 book sales raised approximately $21,000 to help the library serve area residents.

A :-( to the Payne County Budget Board and Assessor James Cowan who couldn’t settle a salary dispute without a district court order. District Judge Phillip Corley gave the budget board 20 days to add a list of equivalent job descriptions on April 7. The budget board should have established the job descriptions when it developed a salary administration plan. The issue should have been settled without court action.
