Q5: City gets set for annual celebration

STILLWATER, Okla. — Rachel Palmer is a recreation supervisor with Stillwater Parks and Recreation. She is also an event coordinator for Boomer Blast.

1 What is the Boomer Blast celebration?

Boomer Blast is the city of Stillwater’s free, annual community Independence Day celebration. Residents should bring lawn chairs or blankets and plan to enjoy the festivities at Boomer Lake Park on July 4. Stillwater is also celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Land Run of 1889 this year.

2 What events are part of Boomer Blast?

The 17th Annual Family Fishing Tournament starts at 6 a.m. This fun fishing tournament attracts about 50 teams each year. Starting at 6:30 p.m., parking opens for the evening event which includes food vendors, inflatables, music and a fireworks show beginning at dusk.

3 What do we need to know about the Family Fishing Tournament?

The family fishing tournament is open to all ages. The cost is $15 for each team of four and registration begins at 5:30 a.m. for boat and non-boat categories. Weigh-in is 11 a.m. Participants can enjoy hot dogs, drinks and inflatables while waiting for the tournament results.

 

4 When and where will Boomer Blast be held?

Boomer Blast will be held July 4th at Boomer Lake Park, which is located at Lakeview Road and Washington Street. In case of rain, the fireworks show will be moved to July 5 or delayed until fall.

5 What other events will be tied to the 125th anniversary?

Boomer Blast is currently our main celebration. Discussions are under way for more events in the fall.
