1 What is the high school musical this year?
The Stillwater High School musical is an all-time favorite, “Anything Goes,” with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. This amusing story involves a host of zany characters off to sail from New York to England. Billy (David Chacon), a young man on his way up in Wall Street, boards the ship to give his boss his passport. He bumps into Hope Harcourt (Carley Dickey), a girl he drove around Central Park with and has been unsuccessfully searching for her ever since. But he soon learns that she has recently become engaged to the wealthy English Baronet, Evelyn Oakleigh (Tanner Hurst). Also along on the cruise is the night club singer and former evangelist Reno Sweeney (Rachel Peek), who tries to help Billy in his attempt to win Hope. But there is another celebrity sailing too, Moonface Martin (Ben Allen), who is incognito and running from the FBI. Billy helps Moonface hide and together they form a bond that involves various disguises to help him win his girl.
2 When is the musical and where can people see it?
“Anything Goes” runs Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and May 4 at 2:30 p.m. in the Stillwater High School Performing Arts Center. Each seat is $7. The musical is a project that involves Director Lisa Larios, Orchestra Conductor Kevin Zamborsky, Music Director Dana Ayers and Technical Director Michelle Hendrix. Also assisting this year is Choreographer Caroline Richardson and Set Supervisor Larry Francis. More than 100 students generally are involved with the musical every year. The company consists of an orchestra, technical crew and actors who are all students from Stillwater High School.
4 Who auditions for the musical?
Auditions take place at the end of January and are open for any students that are interested. Many of the actors are seniors that have never been in a production before and decide that they want to make the best of their last year in high school by being in the musical. The musical serves as a place where all involved practice over four months and become like family. We are in essence a theater family where everyone feels a huge part of something quite wonderful.
