Q5: Local group concerned about fracking

STILLWATER, Okla. — Angela Spotts is an organizer of the organization Stop Fracking Payne County.

1 What is Stop Fracking Payne County?

We are a group of Payne County citizens who are concerned about the ramifications of hydraulic fracturing and the impacts it is making on our community, our lives, wildlife/pets and our environment.

2 Are you affiliated with any political party or organization?

We are not really affiliated with any political group. We are very diverse. Many of our members are active in a variety of groups in our community. We are supportive of Clean Energy Future OK which started the petition at gopetition.com requesting a ban on injection wells to cease the earthquakes.

3 How and why was your group formed?

The earthquakes really started rattling many of us and in conversations we realized to have a stronger voice and get answers we needed to form a group. Five of us met in a living room and decided to form SFPC! We planned our first event, an open town hall that attracted 102 concerned citizens, to share and discuss the earthquakes and the correlation to fracking and high pressure injection wells.

4 What events do you have planned?

We are privileged to host nationally known marine toxicologist, activist, author and speaker, Riki Ott, Ph.D., for “Connect the dots: Fracking to Health. It Is Not Just About the Earthquakes” at 6:30 p.m. July 10 at the Stillwater Public Library.

5 How can people learn more about your group?

We can be found through our Stop Fracking Payne County Facebook page. (Angela Spotts) can be reached at angelaspotts@hotmail.com or 405-707-9653.
