Interfaith Counseling Center plans stepfamily workshop

Stillwater InterFaith Counseling Center will hold a workshop about stepfamilies in October.

Gordon and Carri Taylor from Edmond will lead the workshop, “An Innovative Approach to Working with Stepfamilies,” from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 3 at Sunnybrook Christian Church, 421 E. Richmond Road.

The Taylors, who are both trained counselors, conduct stepfamily workshops throughout the United States. They live their principles in their own stepfamily.

The purpose of the workshop is to teach the differences between stepfamilies and first marriage intact families.

The Taylors will address the structure and forces in stepfamilies, provide a practical guide to inevitable challenges of stepfamily life and share information critical to overcoming stresses that threaten to divide a stepfamily, including handling finances and possessions.

The workshop is targeted to both mental health professionals and anyone in or considering entering into a stepfamily relationship.

For more information and to register, contact Julia Campbell, executive director, at 612-0560.

People who register by Sept. 25 will receive a discount. on the registration fee.

Continuing education credits are available for marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and counselors.
