Gospel group helps community through song

Gospel with a Purpose events are helping the Stillwater community one gospel song at a time.

Since the monthly gospel music events began in July this year, GWAP has raised about $2,000 for Mobile Meals, Judith Karman Hospice, Life Adult Day Center and Cowboys with Compassion, GWAP co-host Sheryl Beeler said.

The public events are free with concessions available and a love offering is taken, most of which goes to non-profits.

At 6 p.m. on Saturday, the fifth GWAP will feature visiting gospel group One Purpose, Rudy Lacy of Perkins and Renee Russell of Guthrie in addition to hosts For His Purpose at Countryside Baptist Church, 2124 S. Western, main auditorium.

It will benefit Payne County Youth Services.

Founded and hosted by Linda Parks, Dale Frost and Sheryl Beeler of For His Purpose in July of this year, the group aims “to lift up and honor the Lord Jesus Christ as well as bless the community by supporting the non-profit organization and bless those who attend with good gospel music,” Beeler said.

Beeler says they hope that someone not currently attending church will attend GWAP and come to know the Lord through gospel music.

“Gospel music is a wonderful way to express the Lord’s love, grace, healing and mercy that he so graciously gives to us. It is a way to express who he is in our lives and what he has for each of us. The old hymns tell such wonderful news that the Lord wants us to know, hear and believe. It is like the Bible in song,” Beeler said.

While she says attendance may be affected by the Oklahoma State University football game this weekend, Beeler anticipates between 100 and 175 people at each GWAP.

“We are just praying that God will bring who he wants to be there,” she said.
