STILLWATER, Okla. — About the Church
YEAR FOUNDED: 1954
CHURCH MEMBERS: 400
PASTOR: John Bugg
“I am the pastor of University Heights Baptist Church. I actually say that with a great deal of pride. Outside of my relationship with Jesus Christ, my wife and my daughter, getting to be the pastor of University Heights is the greatest joy and privilege of my life. I love these people. They’re good people, and they come from all walks of life — rich and poor, young, old, families, married, single, divorced, professors, students. Yet, despite all that diversity, there’s something truly unique going on at University Heights. There’s a unity here born out of our love for each other. God has placed his love in our hearts for one another, this Stillwater community and for the world. We are a family of followers doing our very best to live out the truth of Jesus Christ in our lives. I hope you’ll visit us soon. God is doing some amazing things in and through the people of University Heights. We would absolutely love for you to be a part of it.”
University Heights has many programs to help the community.
Tuesday afternoons, a group of women get together and sew tote bags with donated fabric. The tote bags are taken on mission trips and given out.
Thursday mornings, there is a class for spouses of international students who are learning English — from beginning conversation to more advanced English.
A nursery provides free daycare for those with kids.
Quilting, sewing and shoebox ministries are also at University Heights.
The shoebox ministry takes place in December and consists of putting toys, gum, notebooks and other various items in a shoebox to be sent out.
University Heights holds fundraisers in many different ways. From spaghetti dinners to silent auctions, the money raised supports mission trips. A consistent flow of funds comes from the Coffee House that University Heights runs.
The shop is open from noon to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 3-8 p.m. Sunday. Wi-Fi makes the shop a perfect study place for students close to campus. Lattes, mochas and different teas are available by donation only.
The funds directly support mission projects. Often the store will have a sign about the current project being funded.
Because the shop is run on donations, volunteering is available for those who need to complete community service.
