The Coyle Alumni Banquet was held recently in the Coyle School cafeteria. More than 120 alumni attended the banquet and the following students won college scholarships which were awarded at the banquet.
Caitlin Carnall is the winner of the Coyle Alumni Memorial Scholarship award. She was a member of student council her freshman and sophomore years. She has been an active member of Coyle School’s FCCLA chapter and is co-president for the Coyle School’s FCCLA chapter. Carnall is a senior representative for student council. She is also co-vice president of the senior class. Carnall would like to major in English with a minor in creative writing and attend the University of Central Oklahoma. She loves to write and plans on writing books in the future.
She was a varsity member of the fast-pitch softball team, ninth-12th grades, varsity slow-pitch softball, ninth-12th grades, and varsity basketball team, ninth-12th grades. Caitlin managed three blood drives with the student council group in high school and helped with another in March. She helped the town’s local food bank package food for families in need her sophomore year. She is helping with a student-run denim jean drive to homeless shelters and given to youth in need.
2014 Gary Myers
Ryan Weathers is the winner of the Gary Myers Scholarship award. Myers, age 15 and a Coyle student since first grade, passed away unexpectedly in November 2013 from an infection. This scholarship is given in remembrance of him. Myers was an outstanding person and very supportive of his teammates on the football field, basketball court and baseball field. He had many talents. He was an avid reader and was an academic bowl student who excelled.
The donor of this 2014 scholarship establishes this award in his name in the hope that the recipient will use these funds to fulfill his/her dreams.
2014 Freudenberger-Hies Scholarship (second year)
Weathers is the winner of this year’s Freudenberger-Hies Scholarship. He is valedictorian of Coyle High School. He has been CHS class president, 2010-2014. He was a member of the 2011 academic team as a regional qualifier and the 2012 academic team as regional champions and state qualifier. He has been a student council representative from 2010-14 and helped with the student blood drive during those years. He has been a member of FFA 2009-14. In 2009-10, in eighth grade, he was a sentinel in Coyle FFA, and in 2013-14 is FFA president. He has participated in varsity basketball, baseball, and football for four years and in track and field for three years. He loves sports. In football, Weathers was awarded all district in 2012 and 2013 and named to the all star yeam. He was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2012 and he was first team district linebacker in 2013. He was selected to play in the eight-man All Star Football Game in Miami in June. In Ryan’s junior and senior years, he played quarterback and linebacker on Coyle’s football team, which made it to the playoffs again in fall 2013 for the third year in a row. In his senior year, Weathers made all star team for Class A in basketball and will participate in the all star basketball game at OBU in June. He was point guard on the Coyle basketball team which was state runner-up in Class B his junior year. In his freshman, sophomore and senior years, the basketball team made it to the area tournament. In baseball, he has played pitcher, catcher, short-stop, third base and outfielder. In each year in high school, he has been selected to play in the baseball conference all star games. In track, he was a state qualifier in 2011-12 in eight x 3200 mile relay and in 2012-13, regional, 3200 relay team member. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Zion Lutheran Church and attends Church of Christ as well. His hope for the school is to establish a stronger Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization. His plans are to attend OSU or another college to be decided and to earn a degree in business or engineering.
Janet Freudenberger-Hies is a Coyle alumna now living in Munich, Germany, with her husband, Dr. Michael Hies, and children, Christian and Anna. She was an OSU graduate and earned her master’s degree abroad. She worked for AT&T for several years.
