Senior Center Watch 11-17-13

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is hosting a defensive driving class from 9:45 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m. Monday. There will be an hour lunch break during the program. The class is sponsored by Meridian Technology Center. Check with your insurance provider to see if the class may qualify you for a discount on your automobile insurance.

The center offers a variety of activities for seniors, 50 and older, to choose from, including card games such as duplicate and social bridge, canasta, pitch, Texas Hold’em and various others games like dominoes. Practice your shots on the pool and snooker tables. More women are encouraged to come learn to play pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Another group enjoys sharing creative ideas painting and helping each other with craft projects on Monday and Friday. Win prizes playing bingo and enjoy musical tunes every Thursday during music night. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up.

Get some exercise in the Tuesday and Thursday morning “Sit ‘n be Fit” class to improve strength and flexibility. Some exercises are completed sitting while others are executed standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands and bouncing balls during the 45-minute workout. Work out on your own using the center’s exercise equipment, including a treadmill, weight set and exercise bike. Wii interactive games, line dancing and pingpong can get you moving, too.

The Veteran’s Affairs representative is no longer coming to the center. He will now be at Workforce Oklahoma’s Stillwater office, 3006 E. Sixth St., from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

For more news about events, stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. to pick up a November calendar. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. Call 405-747-8080 for more information.

Champions for competitive games last week included social bridge winners Norma Burk, first, and Sue McMillan, second.
