The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers many fun activities for people 50 and over. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. and 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information.
Monday: Morning activities include fellowship with women’s pool practice at 9:30 a.m. A painting group meets at the same time. Bring your pool stick or use one from the center and enjoy some fun competition. The oil/acrylic painters bring their own supplies and exchange ideas with each other. Afternoon activities start around 1 p.m. including bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.
Tuesday: A “Sit ‘n Be Fit” exercise class starts at 9:30 a.m. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. Kick up your heels line dancing around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and pingpong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as duplicate bridge, dominoes, canasta, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs visits 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.
Wednesday: Women’s pool starts at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive game set and a pingpong table are available. Exercise equipment which includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine are available. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. including canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. The family movie, “Love Begins,” will be shown at 2 p.m.
Thursday: November is a good time to start thinking about getting in shape for all the extra calories that come with the holidays. A good start would be the “Sit ‘n Be Fit” exercise class which meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Afterwards, you can play some Wii games or pingpong. Afternoon games such as canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving, get started at 1 p.m. Bingo is called at 2 p.m. The doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set up and tuned to start some good ol’ country songs at 6 p.m.
Friday: Women’s pool gets under way at 9:30 a.m. A painting class also begins at the same time. Card games, pool, snooker, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and puzzle solving are all popular activities for the afternoon.
Last week’s winners of bridge were Penny Sizemore, first, and Deloris Sanders, second. Other bridge winners were Lew Taylor, first, and Ina Lee Abels, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were Al Perry and Lionel Raff, first, and Penny Sizemore, Jane Anderson, Lucy Robinson, and Betty Lowrey all tied for second. Texas Hold’em winner was Betty Shields.
