Senior Center Watch 11-24-13

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular hours resume Dec. 2. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Regular hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. Stop by to pick up a calendar of events.

Champions for competitive games last week were social bridge winners Wally Reynolds, first, and Lynn Fent, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were Murna Raff and Betty Lowrey, first, and Meg Kletke and Laurene Opdyke, second. Texas Hold’em champions were Lula Mae Davis and Darrell Davis. Wayne Vinson won the men’s pool tournament.

Activity highlights this week include:

Monday: Women can enjoy some rounds of eight-ball pool at 9:30 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The center has an exercise room with bikes and a weight set for senior use. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker and jigsaw puzzle solving.

Tuesday: A free exercise class, Sit ‘n Be Fit, is offered at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Exercises are low impact and good for strength and flexibility. Some are executed while sitting and others are completed by standing next to a chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands and bouncing balls during the 45-minute workout.

The Veteran’s Affairs representative is not coming to the Senior Center anymore. He is at Workforce Oklahoma’s Stillwater office, 3006 E. Sixth St. from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays only.

Wednesday: The women will be at the pool tables, practicing their pool shots at 9:30 a.m. New players are welcome to join in the pool shooting or try the Wii interactive games, a game of pingpong or exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m., which include canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch and pool/snooker. The historical dramatic movie, “Parkland” will be shown at 2 p.m.

Thursday and Friday: Center closed.
