Senior Center Watch 06-30-13

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Thursday for the July Fourth holiday. Regular hours resume on Friday.

Registration is open for a defensive driving class to be offered 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 16. Some insurance providers offer discounts if clients enroll in defensive driving classes. Check with an insurance agent to determine if the defensive driving class qualifies for a payment reduction.

The center offers a place to get out of the heat and enjoy the many activities offered to seniors, 50 and older, such as card games, pool and snooker, exercise classes, social and duplicate bridge, Texas Hold ‘em, canasta, pitch, dominoes, bingo, movies, Wii interactive games, line dancing, painting class, pingpong and musical entertainment. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

Exercise equipment including a treadmill, weight set and exercise bike are available. A Sit ‘n Be Fit low impact exercise class is offered every Tuesday and Thursday morning with some staying for line dancing afterward.

A group of women practice pool at 9:30 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

A Veteran’s Affairs representative is available 1-2:25 p.m. Tuesday to help with paper work. No appointment is needed.

The adventure movie, “Oz the Great and Powerful,” will show at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Stop by to pick up a July calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and  6-8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. If you are interested in joining a social or duplicate bridge group, then call 405-747-8080 or leave your name and number with a staff member.

During gaming action last week, social bridge winners were Wally Reynolds, first, and Lynn Fent, second. Duplicate bridge winners included partners Al Perry and Lionel Raff, first, and Lew Taylor and Jane Anderson, second. The Texas Hold’em grand champion for the week was Paul Hulse.
