The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is offering free blood pressure and sugar tests 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday. Stop by 1015 E. 12th and pick up a January calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. Remember during the winter if Stillwater Public Schools are closed for inclement weather, the Senior Activity Center will also be closed.
Call 405-747-8080 if you are interested in joining a social or duplicate bridge group or to inquire about any other activities. Starting in February, trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers will figure income taxes, free. Times are 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday from Feb. 4 to April 15. No appointments are necessary with assistance on a first come, first served basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification.
Monday: After the doors open at 9:30 a.m., women pool players gather around the tables for some fun competitive games of eight ball. A group of artists come to spend some time together expressing their creativity. There is exercise equipment available that includes a treadmill, weight set and an exercise bike. At 12:30 p.m. representatives will be here to take blood pressure and blood sugar tests. The afternoon crowd starts coming in about the same time to play various games such as: bridge, canasta, dominoes and pool or snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.
Tuesday: Take the opportunity to join a free exercise class held every at 9:30 to about 10:15 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. The “Sit ‘n Be Fit” class exercises are completed while sitting and some are executed while standing by your chair. Hand weights, stretch bands and bouncing balls are all utilized during the 45-minute workout. Afterward, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wi games. A pingpong table is available for use, too. In the afternoon, there is a choice of games including canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in from 1 to 2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.
Wednesday: Pool balls start falling again for the women pool players beginning at 9:30 a.m. They have a lively time with lots of laughs. Come join the fun! A Wii interactive game set and a pingpong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment is available, too. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. including canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The dramatic movie, “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” will be shown at 2 p.m.
Thursday: Exercisers get started stretching again in the “Sit ‘n Be Fit” exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After class, play some Wii games or pingpong. A group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. At 1 p.m. afternoon games such as canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker and puzzle solving are played. A men’s pool tournament starts at 1 p.m. Bring your pool stick or use one provided by the center and join the fun! At 2 p.m., bingo is called. A lot of laughs are always shared during this time. Don’t miss out on the good times. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians start some good ol’ country tunes at 6 p.m. Come tap your toes with everybody!
Friday: The women get out their pool sticks for some more friendly competition and fellowship. The painting group returns at 9:30 a.m. The painters bring their own supplies and share their time and ideas with other artists. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a pingpong table or Wii player. Check out the afternoon games of cards, pool, snooker, Texas Hold’em, dominoes and puzzle solving.
Last week’s bridge winners were Dollie McClary, first, and Barbara Geiser, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were Norma Burk and Treca Baer, first, and Lionel Raff and Al Perry, second. Jean Hatcher and Shirley Crockett were the winners Texas Hold’em.
